Seed Licence Renewal

Ongoing Compliance

Seed Licence Renewal & Validity Regulations

Under the **Seed Control Order, 1983**, a seed licence (whether manufacturing, wholesale, or retail) is issued for a defined validity period, typically **3 to 5 years** depending on the state.

To prevent trading disruptions, applications for renewal must be submitted prior to the license expiry date. Conducting business with an expired license constitutes a statutory violation under the Seeds Act.

Licence Renewal Timeline & Fees

  • Grace Period: The renewal file should ideally be submitted at least **30 days** before the expiry date.
  • Late Fee Clause: If the application is filed within the expiry month or a defined grace window thereafter, a penalty/late fee is charged as per state guidelines.
  • Re-Application: If a license is not renewed within the permitted grace period, it stands cancelled. The dealer/manufacturer must submit a fresh application from scratch.
