Seed Dealer Licence & SATHI

Centralized Registry

Seed Dealer Licensing & the SATHI Traceability Portal

A seed dealer licence is required under the **Seed Control Order, 1983** for companies or agents that distribute and market crop seeds under their brand name across India.

With the digitization of agricultural administration in India, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare introduced the **SATHI (Seed Traceability, Authentication and Holistic Inventory)** portal.

Understanding SATHI (seedtrace.gov.in)

SATHI is a centralized digital dashboard designed to address the challenges of seed seed certification, licensing, and tracking.

  • Seed Traceability: Tracks seed blocks from breeder seed development to foundation and certified seed marketing.
  • Authentication QR Codes: Generates unique security tags for bag containers, preventing fake seeds from entering the market.
  • Unified Licensing: Integrates state-level agricultural databases into a national interface, simplifying license tracking.
  • Inventory Management: Provides details on seed stock availability, helping prevent market shortages.

Registration Documents Needed

Applying as a registered dealer on SATHI requires: PAN and Aadhaar authentication, mobile and email linkage, storage coordinates, and Source Certificates (Form O) from authorized seed producers.
